Pork Bun Goodness

December 26th, 2009 by admin Leave a reply »

I grew up about an hour from Chinatown in San Francisco. My parents used to take my siblings and me to lunch there on Sundays. Sometimes we’d eat at a dim sum restaurant, and sometimes we’d go to a Chinese bakery. The bakery is where I discovered my favorite food: Steamed pork buns. The outside is slightly gummy and sweet. This inside is delicious barbecued pork. The flavor of the pork is similar to the taste a Chinese barbecue spare rib. They’re served warm, and they’re tasty as all get-out! When I moved away from California, I couldn’t find a taste comparable to that pork bun–until last night. I found a Chinese grocery store in Greenville, SC that sells frozen pork buns. You steam them yourself, and the taste is as sweet and gummy as I remember from my childhood. Mmmmm….
