Bargain Hunter

August 2nd, 2010 by admin No comments »

I love to shop. I haven’t always loved it. When I was a little girl, my mother and grandmother would drag me around the mall for hours looking for an outfit or a new pair of shoes and I would cry and fuss until they couldn’t take any more. My grandmother told me that one day, I would beg them to go shopping. I would be driving them around to all the stores and spending tons of money right along with them. I did not believe them at the time, but here I am now with three hundred dollars to my name, and boy is it burning a hole in my pocket! There was one thing that my relatives were wrong about. I still hate going to the mall. I love to bargain hunt! Every Saturday, I wake my mother and grandmother up early and get them into the car, coffees in hand, and drive around to every garage sale that we can find. After we feel that we have seen all the good garage sales, we visit the Good Wills and Salvation Army stores to see what they have received over the past week. I find all kinds of great deals on brand name clothing and furniture, to my favorite items, used books! These are the best places to find the best deals on things before you go out to buy them in a store.

The Blah Week

July 30th, 2010 by admin No comments »

This past week has seemed like one of those times where you stay really busy, but do not get anything done. I have been a little bit frazzled, the summer seems like it has zoomed right by me. All of the little projects I meant to get done. I am a teacher, and somehow all of the school planning I meant to get done gradually did not get done, and I was left with a lot to do at the very last minute. In the midst of the school planning and regular household stuff that has to be done, I also had some family activities like playing with my nieces and having dinner with my grandparents, so those were fun activities. Hopefully I will get caught up with everything soon once I get back into the school routine. On another fun note, I have discovered writing, and have been having fun learning how to do it and playing around. That is another reason that I have got very little done this week!

A Beautiful Day for Me

July 27th, 2010 by admin No comments »

When I woke up this morning, I immediately bent my knees and I said a little prayer to God. I gave thanks to Him for a beautiful morning that greeted me on that moment. I also asked for the forgiveness of my sins. Then, I asked that He will continue to bless me or shower me with His endless blessings like having a good health, peace of mind or serenity and most especially happiness. All of that was not only for me but that includes all the love of life. Right after my little prayer, I already prepared myself. I glanced the time at my wristwatch and noticed that the time was 6:00 in the morning. Usually, I am already taking a hot bath at that time so I went to the bathroom and took a bath there. Then, I prepared the rice to cook and the other food to pair with the rice. While waiting, I watched the show on the television and saw the news. Some were bad news and some were good. It was great watching the good news while I sipped my coffee. Anyways, that was just the start of my busy day. Right now, I am already doing my work at an internet cafe. Yes, my day was busy yet I served it as a beautiful day for me!

Sizzling Chicken Fajitas

Barbacoa Tacos — “Three corn tortillas f...

Last night, after I got home from work, I walked into my kitchen and realized that I forgot to stop by the grocery store on my way home. Thank God for my creative thinking. I opened the fridge to find out I had enough to make something special for my family. In the freezer I pulled out frozen boneless chicken cutlets and thawed that out while I searched the fridge some more. We had a package of flour tortillas, sour cream from last week’s tacos, lettuce, tomato, and a jar of salsa. Since I come from a Spanish background, I used some of my best spices to season the chicken. I used a starting base to season the chicken. It consists of chopped green and red peppers, onions, celery, garlic, a little bit of water and oil. I sautéed in a large frying pan and voila; Delicious! My family couldn’t stop phrasing me for a meal well done!

My best buddy

YouTube Preview ImageDogs are the best walking companies to human. My dog is very short, smart. My dog is very amiable and friendly. When I went to the pet shop I saw lot of dog breeds in that there was a cute, hairy dog which attracts me a lot so I purchased. My dog likes to play with other animals. It behaves friend with all family members. I give very nutritious food which is rich in carbohydrates and proteins. My dog loves to play with toys that encourage both mentally and physically by appealing to their natural instincts. My dog has a thick hair I used to brush all the time. And it requires brushing around twice a week although it will need to be stepped up at time that it is shedding more heavily. My dog has an instant attraction towards colorful plastic ball.

Now you see me, now you don’t!

When I get dressed on any given weekday, the outfit I wear is nothing special to me, believe me. Well, nothing special appearance wise. I put on my Airman Battle Uniform camouflage head to toe. Complete with steel toe combat boots, and a cap to match. It is special in the sense that I am wearing a uniform that few people get to wear in the world, and it’s a uniform that despite its release date has a lot of heritage built in. If it weren’t for the weekends, I wouldn’t have much of a wardrobe at all.

New City to Explore

July 14th, 2010 by admin No comments »

My wife and I spent last weekend exploring our new surroundings in Portland, Oregon. We moved here about a month ago from the Phoenix area and I’m still impressed with, oh, trees, and leaves on the ground, and free water that falls unsupervised from the sky and rolls about on the streets, that still seems strange to me. Sort of gratuitous. Portland especially seems to have an inexhaustible supply of small neighborhoods with tons of character and neighborhood feeling, pockets of the city that people have cared for and looked after, like you’d care for a garden. And it’s all to a human scale, not an automobile scale, again a big contrast from Arizona and completely refreshing. The city’s going to fill up our weekends for the foreseeable future, and that’s a great prospect.

Friends – where laughter never stops

I am obsessed with this show. I know it’s been like six years since the last episode was aired but the show has been a legend. You can see it again and again and you still find it as hilarious as the first time you saw it. I like each of the six characters, the best thing about it was they all had such different qualities and you couldn’t think of anyone who could have done it better. But my favorite was Chandler played by Matthew Perry, I have seen him in many interviews and he is as funny in real life as he is in the show. It’s really sad that the show had to end. But hopefully they will reunite to give the fans one more chance to see the dream team together once again.

An Easy Place

July 8th, 2010 by admin No comments »

Merrimack, New Hampshire is an easy-going place to live: While we certainly have our challenges, especially with the present economic situation closing some of our local companies and impacting others, there is just not a lot of pressure here. Ordinary decency is expected and honored, but there is little pettiness, and little haughtiness. We are on the banks of the Merrimack River, where Native Americans once had villages. Opposite ends of our town are named after the ferries that once ran across the river. Today the most important influence of the river is that one of our main employers is Anheuser Busch, who chose to locate here (complete with a Clydesdale Hamlet) for the water quality. A decade ago I was practically ashamed to live in New Hampshire – we were dead last to acknowledge Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we didn’t have public kindergarten, and our town was struggling with the Christian coalition’s efforts to take over our school board. Today, our state has still not given in to the need for a broad-based tax that would make it possible to accomplish far more in our communities. Yet we are far more deeply committed to civil rights, educating our children, and providing for those in need.

Burned

Two kittens suddenly showed up at my house less than a week ago. One is black and the other orange. They were hiding in the bushes when I drove past. I walked down the street towards the bush I saw them in, expecting not to see them, since the last kittens around here were wild and wary of humans. These jumped out at me and rubbed against me. They are so small. They can’t weigh more than 3 to 5 pounds each. Someone abandoned them here. I had to leave with my friend’s family on Saturday to go to the beach. It’s really nice to be here, even if I’m not such a beach type of person. I actually got a tan, and a burn, because I had a major case of hubris. I thought it’d be okay not to put on any sun block at all. And then for a while, I thought I was okay. No burn… until I tried to lie down. My shoulder blades are in awful shape. At least I’m not peeling, right?
