My Week Finding Work

Manpower: Exploring the World of Virtual Work ...

My main mission this past week was to find a job. Once again, I was either overqualified, under qualified, had too little experience, or could find no open positions. I tried food service, but I lacked the experience necessary. I tried offices, but there are literally no office jobs available at this time. I tried temporary agencies, but they told me they had a lack of positions available. I am a 20 year old undergraduate student with perfect school and work history. I have a 3.9 GPA. After struggling to get air-conditioned office jobs or upscale food service jobs, I decided to apply at local fast food chains. So far, the fast food managers have been the nicest out of all other fields. I applied at a customer service center with an outstanding business reputation, but I could tell from the second I applied that they were not so outstanding to their employees. Everyone in the center looked miserable, the HR staff was outrageously rude to every applicant, and they required a million tests, questions, interviews, checks, references, credit history reports, etc. After I passed all of the tests, made 100 WPM on my typing test, and proved I was not an imbecile, they said, “We’ll call you.” Well… I’m still waiting to hear from them, but until then, I’ll keep trying fast food. I’ll be the best drive-thru operator in town!
