Last weekend was what would have been Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday. I searched online for any celebrations or gatherings going on in my area but there were none. So, I decided to have a birthday party for him myself. I baked a cake and gave it the fanciest decorating job I could. I am not very good with an “icing pen” so it looked like something a child may have scribbled and drawn, but it was my special message for MJ. I had balloons, streamers, confetti- the whole package. I had a few friends who are also fans over, and we listened to Michael’s music all afternoon and evening and danced and sang until we were exhausted. We took breaks from the music only to watch TV. There were many specials airing all weekend, so we watched those until the endings made us cry and we couldn’t stand it any longer. All in all, I think it was a birthday party that the King of Pop would have appreciated. The only down side was that since Saturday was the big gala, Sunday marked the “day after” and everybody’s moods turned sad. We then watched all the TV tributes that were still running this next day and cried because we realized that even though we had found a way to celebrate Michael’s life, we now had to accept that we were still in mourning.
