Education is Important

August 31st, 2010

Today I am very busy in handling my daughter’s studies. I am preparing for her term exams from this week. She is only five and a half years old and I am teaching her how to form sentences and write them in proper spelling. Now a days we parents have to help our children and guide them in their academic works. It is our responsibility to know about how they are in their education. Proper guidance will definitely end in good results. I spent most of my time in turning my little girl’s books and holding her hands to write.

Best Friends Forever

August 28th, 2010

One of my best friends is my dog.  I have had her companionship since she was only eight weeks old.  Her name is Coco and she is now thirteen months old.  She is so playful and loves to play fetch.  Wakes me up each morning and tells me when it’s time to go out to do her business.  She sits by the tub while I take my bath, patiently waiting for ‘Mom’ to resume play.  She accompanies me on my daily walk and loves to get little snacks while dinner is being prepared.  She listens to me whenever I have something to talk about and never interrupts.  She looks at me with all the love in the world in those beautiful brown eyes.  She curls up at my feet when it’s time for bed.  She is one of my best friends and certainly the most loyal!

Dirty D

August 24th, 2010

I live in Durham, North Carolina.  Some people may have heard of it, but if not, you probably have heard of its more famous neighbor, Raleigh.  Durham is a cool place to live because it contains so many diverse cultures all in one little town.  We have black, white, Chinese, Japanese, Hispanic, Middle Eastern , everyone all living so close to each other.   We have many opportunities to learn from each other.  There are many places to shop close by and there are plenty of interesting places to visit within a few hours drive.  There are some gangs where I live, which is where it gets some of its terrible nicknames, such as Dirty D, but they pretty much stay in their little corners of the town.  There is so much history in my town and so many things to do.  My town is cool because every day there is something new to learn.

iWant an iPhone

If I could have anything in the world, it would definitely be an Apple iPhone.  I love all of the applications that you can add to the phone to personalize it to your liking.  There are games and to-do lists and even random Zippo Lighter applications.  You can use it to surf the web or check your email.  You can even change your voice to sound like the rapper, T-Pain if you wish.  There are so many things that you can do with your iPhone, but the biggest drawback is that it is only available through AT&T wireless service.  I am currently with Verizon and I do not plan on switching to a company that has less wireless coverage.  My only hope of someday owning an iPhone is if Verizon picks it up or creates something similar to it.

Perfect Profession

August 16th, 2010

If I could be anything at all, I would be a stay at home mom.  I have been working since I was fifteen years old.  I would love to be able to stay at home and raise my children.  I want to take them to the zoo and teach them about animals.  I want to take them grocery shopping with me to teach them about finances.  I want to make little peanut butter and jelly sandwich lunches with them and sack out on the floor for naptime.  I want to have dinner ready when my husband walks through the door.  I want to tuck in my little ones at the end of the day and feel as though I have accomplished a great deal, even though I was home with my kids all day.  I want to be the perfect example for my children.  I want to be a stay at home mom.

Family Ties

August 11th, 2010

My family means the world to me.  I would go to any extreme to protect my family and I know that they would do the same for me.  I am very close to my mother.  We get pedicures together, go shopping, and tell each other everything.  My father teaches me how to fix things and work on my car and we bond through these teachings.  My sister and I attend the same university and we have lunch together several times a week.  She is my best friend in the world.  My family is what made me who I am today and I value their love and support above all else.  Without my family, I wouldn’t even be here today.  They have guided me through some very tough times in my life and I am thankful to have them.

Family Tradition

August 8th, 2010

I always do the same thing for every holiday season.  I dread it, even before it begins because it can be so hectic.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love the holidays, the feeling of giving and being able to visit my family, but that’s pretty much where the pleasure ends.  Each year, along with the coming holiday, I have to celebrate with my family as well as my fiancé’s family.  That doesn’t sound too bad, does it?  Guess again.  My family is a little broken up.  They refuse to all get together on one day, so I always end up having to visit five different homes of my relatives over the span of two days.  Throw in the three others that my fiancé adds to the mix and we end up running around all over town and eating way too much to even be able to enjoy.  I wish that for one year, we could just stay home and relax and enjoy spending the holidays together, alone.  Maybe this year will be the year to make that happen.

You Are What You Read

Girl reading a book.

I enjoy reading books when I have free time.  I always keep a book in my bag.  Whenever I have to wait for a doctor appointment or a meeting, I pull out my book and I am immediately engulfed in a world that is all my own.  The words and plots are written by someone else, but I create the world, the characters, the settings in my imagination.  I feel as though I am the character in the book that I am reading.  I get so engrossed in the book that I begin to feel the emotions of the character that I am reading about.  Reading teaches you to exercise your imagination. It requires a lot more work than simply watching everything play out in front of you on television.  Reading is fun and it allows me to escape from the stresses of day to day life, if only for five minutes, while waiting on the doctor to call me back.

Bargain Hunter

August 2nd, 2010

I love to shop. I haven’t always loved it. When I was a little girl, my mother and grandmother would drag me around the mall for hours looking for an outfit or a new pair of shoes and I would cry and fuss until they couldn’t take any more. My grandmother told me that one day, I would beg them to go shopping. I would be driving them around to all the stores and spending tons of money right along with them. I did not believe them at the time, but here I am now with three hundred dollars to my name, and boy is it burning a hole in my pocket! There was one thing that my relatives were wrong about. I still hate going to the mall. I love to bargain hunt! Every Saturday, I wake my mother and grandmother up early and get them into the car, coffees in hand, and drive around to every garage sale that we can find. After we feel that we have seen all the good garage sales, we visit the Good Wills and Salvation Army stores to see what they have received over the past week. I find all kinds of great deals on brand name clothing and furniture, to my favorite items, used books! These are the best places to find the best deals on things before you go out to buy them in a store.

The Blah Week

July 30th, 2010

This past week has seemed like one of those times where you stay really busy, but do not get anything done. I have been a little bit frazzled, the summer seems like it has zoomed right by me. All of the little projects I meant to get done. I am a teacher, and somehow all of the school planning I meant to get done gradually did not get done, and I was left with a lot to do at the very last minute. In the midst of the school planning and regular household stuff that has to be done, I also had some family activities like playing with my nieces and having dinner with my grandparents, so those were fun activities. Hopefully I will get caught up with everything soon once I get back into the school routine. On another fun note, I have discovered writing, and have been having fun learning how to do it and playing around. That is another reason that I have got very little done this week!
