Tasty Tacos

Last night my family had tacos for dinner. My husband and I had crunchy shell tacos, while my sons had soft shells. We added refried beans into the tacos; the beans add a lot of flavor to the taco. When I make my refried beans I heat them up with a bit of taco sauce and shredded cheese. They are very tasty this way. When making the boys’ tacos I spread the refried beans on the shell, top it with meat, add a bit of taco sauce and top it off with some shredded cheese and a small dollop of sour cream. My husband will usually add hot sauce, jalapenos, lettuce, and tomato to his tacos as well. I usually only pile cheese, and sour cream onto mine. Tacos are great because everyone can have what they want without feeling like a cook in a restaurant.

Some Skinnier Clothes

June 24th, 2010

Today I am wearing some new clothes in smaller sizes. After losing about 25 pounds this summer, I am delighted to be wearing a size 10 pants for the first time in about seven years. My ensemble today consists of black dress pants, black heels, and a pink v-neck short-sleeved shirt with an wide elastic band around the waist. I’m also wearing my usual watch and some bold oval earrings. As a teacher, I had been saving some of these newer, skinnier clothes for the start of the school year, so it has been fun wearing them for the first time. I’m getting compliments from teachers and students alike.

Our Puppy

June 24th, 2010

Our dog from a puppy was a bit difficult with her feeding habits. She did not like repeat food except for one dish we used to make for her that is with rice, curds and a raw egg, all mixed together. She would finish it in a minute. She used to love the beef soup but would never touch the beef bone. She loved the meat all by itself. This was becoming a little bit difficult for us as we were all job holders so we had to think of a dog supplements. We called our parents and they told us there were so many dog supplement foods available in the pet shops, from then we started to replace some of her food with dog biscuits, pedigree with different flavours like beef and rice, milk and rice, veg and meat etc., and also with chew sticks.

The Dog Days of summer

I am a full-time RV’er spending her summer at a lake in Iowa. The dog days of summer are upon us and it’s the weekend. Yeah! The day was gorgeous, sunny and 81. I have been in this campground the entire summer and we have never actually explored the surround areas around the lake. This is a Corps of Engineers lake and has many recreation areas, so we load up the cooler and head out on a road trip. What a beautiful day. Families are out boating, swimming, having picnics, hiking, and riding their bikes on the bike trails. We had a great time and finished the day off back at the RV with a bottle of wine and couple of steaks on the grill. It doesn’t get any better than that. Sunday dawns cool and cloudy. If you have ever spent any time in a RV then you know that those are the kind of days that you dread. It’s too cold to sit outside and it’s terribly confining to sit inside a RV all day. We turn on the TV and prepare to spend the day being couch potatoes. Luckily, a friend called to save the day! “Did we want to come to dinner?” you bet we did! We had a great time visiting. The meal was excellent and the three bottles of wine made for great conversation and relaxation. Life is good when you’re retired!

When I Grow Up I want to be on Whale Wars

June 17th, 2010

My grown children make fun of me; I am always telling them I am going to take a tour of duty on the Sea Shepherd, the anti-whaling ship featured on Whale Wars. This television show is on Animal Planet, and it chronicles the whaling season as experienced on the Steve Irwin. The Steve Irwin is a boat actually sailed out of Australia into the Antarctic Waters to stop the Japanese Whaling ships from slaughtering whales in a whale sanctuary. They use non-violent techniques and strategies to “encourage’ the Japanese whaling vessels to cease and desist their illegal whaling activities. I suppose I will continue to watch Whale Wars, but who says you can’t do something exciting like that when you are over twenty?

My city is well decorated by the people and other beauty is all given by the God. There is another place in my city it is name as Gujranwala .Gujranwala is in the northeast of Punjab province of Pakistan. It is also considered as the bordering city of Pakistan with India It is situated on the grand trunk road constructed by Sher Shah Sori in 17th century. It is the longest road in Pakistan connecting all the major cities from Khyber to Karachi. Gujranwala is near Lahore which is the capital city of the province. The origin of the name Gujranwala is shrouded in mists of time and one is forced to refer again to the first gazetteer 1874. For some reason the Jaat Tribe Gujar occupied the land. They reach such dominance that the town came to be known as Gujranwala. I love my city very much it has lot of other beautiful places.

The week that that took a turn for the worst

June 10th, 2010

My week kind of sucked at the beginning, just a little. Work as OK, but I was so bored that the days kept dragging. I answer phones for a living and no one has been calling in at all. So, the weekend was supposed to be OK, but family time dragged on with the in-laws. I don’t know why they annoy me as much as they do, but they really do. There’s no reason either, they’re very nice people. But something about them drives me crazy. But back to my week. Family time was over and John and his friend came over and played video games all night. I mean all night, until 5:30am when John finally came to bed. I read some of the Twilight books while they played but aside from that, I was cleaning up a mess that continued to be made. Then on Sunday, I was supposed to go clothes shopping. We had been putting it off for weeks but my work pants are falling apart. We woke up late, as John had stayed up to late, and by the time we were ready, we realized the mall closes early on Sunday, and we’d have 15 minutes to do all our shopping. We wended up staying in and got pizza, which gave me indigestion, and here I am. Here’s hoping next week’s better.

Puppy for the kids

June 8th, 2010

When we presented our children with a puppy and a soft cuddley one, they were excited and overjoyed. They took charge of the puppy like it was one of them by firstly cleaning up the dog’s dirt, washing the place when it became dirty, giving her bath, taking her for walks and when we used to go out to visit our relations and parents they got her a dog seat belt so that she would sit comfortably in the car and she would not jump around. They would place her dog seat belt by the window, so that she could look out and feel the breeze on her face. They would carry her dog biscuits and the chew sticks in a special bag for her and water too as she would get thirsty along with her bowl. They always treat her like a baby and spoil her so much. They love her with all their hearts. She has become their friend and love of their lives.

I had such a frustrating day today

June 7th, 2010

I swear I had been following my diet exactly and then when I stood on the scales it said I had put on weight! It’s so unfair. I spent the day wandering around feeling sorry for myself I admit. I can’t understand how one simple activity like weighing yourself can throw a woman into the pits of depression. My day would have been entirely different if I had just avoided the scales and continued believing the pounds were just dropping off. I even canceled by evening walk on the beach and just sat in front of the television. I suppose I will just have to start back on the diet when I wake up tomorrow.

Leftovers – Not Always a Bad Thing!

My dinner last night was leftovers from the meal cooked the night before. We had made kabobs which included beef, red peppers, green peppers, and red onions. The beef was marinated overnight before hand, and then the food was all put on skewers and cooked on the grill. We made a bit too much of this meal, and had enough left over for it to be dinner last night as well. Leftovers often get a bad rap, but they can often be very good. This was an example of that – the leftovers were excellent – almost as good as having it the first time! The food still had that great grilled flavor, and the types of food involved worked well being reheated – they didn’t get too soggy or anything else undesirable. All in all, it was a very good meal and once again reaffirmed for me that leftovers make great meals, as long as you store them correctly and prepare them the right way.
