The primary ingredients are chicken, red pepper and basil. However, the sauce flavoring is a combination of oyster sauce, fish sauce and soy sauce. Generally, I try to keep the salt content of my dinners low, so I used light soy sauce. Additionally, the fish sauce is only used in trace amounts, but it greatly enhances the flavor. A chili garlic paste is also added to increase the flavor of the dish. The main ingredients are stir fried together in a mixture of garlic and canola oil, and then served over a bed of Shanghai noodles (Chinese style flour noodles), which can be found in Asian grocery stores. Since the main dish included protein, vegetable and starch, I chose not to include a separate side dish with the meal. For dessert, I had coffee ice cream with dark chocolate chips.

January 30th, 2010Far Out – It’s the 70’s Show…

I looove the 70’s Show – the writers have some great, hilarious lines. The characters compliment each other, well, not literally! It’s a great reminder of how times used to be – how carefree we were – how we thought the silliest things were the most important. The youth back then are portrayed very well by this show – from their ‘antics’ to their dressing style to their ‘vocalizations’. It’s just an all around great comedy show.
Keeping Your Best Friend Comfortable
January 25th, 2010Ever since man discovered that dogs could provide service, protection and companionship, we have bonded with them and included them as a family member. Our goal should be to provide as much comfort to our canine friends as we can. Dogs, like humans grow older and develop just as many problems as humans. One of these infirmities happens to be arthritis. When your canine friend can no longer be comfortable resting on its old favorite rug, it may well be time to investigate bolster orthopedic dog beds. After all, if you had trouble sleeping on just any old mattress instead of one designed specifically suitable for someone suffering from arthritis; doesn’t your canine friend deserve the same? They come in various sizes from small to large and will make your dog’s life much easier.
Two Strengths Necessary for Success
January 22nd, 2010Many people have different strengths, and what is a weakness for one person can be seen as strength for another. With that in mind, the strengths I have are organization and time-management. Organization is the main strength that makes a person successful. When working in a busy environment, it’s important to be organized with all of the tasks that need to be completed throughout the day. Organization ensures that nothing “slips through the cracks.” A second strength goes along the same lines as organization: time management. If you are able to effectively utilize your time, you will be able to complete more tasks throughout the day. It’s also good to be able to acknowledge what tasks need to be completed on a specific day. These ties in with prioritizing tasks. If a person is able to be organized and have time management, they will be able to succeed at any career or task they face.

Travel to NC
January 19th, 2010This past week was especially nice because I got to spend a few days in Asheville, North Carolina. We drove down from Philadelphia, which takes about 9 1/2 hours. That’s a drag, but once there it’s all worth it. I love Asheville and hope to retire there in a few years. It was my second visit there. We’d explored some of the tourist stops last year, so this year we just spent time in the city and in the surrounding mountains, testing out what it might be like to live there. The weather’s fine there, even in July, since the mountains protect from the humidity. The restaurants there are amazing, especially since we’re vegetarians and most eateries there serve southern food with a vegetarian twist. There’s lots of diversity of race, age, lifestyle, etc. There’s lots of art, which I love to look at, and great music in the parks and in the bars after dark. I even made contacts with people who could help me become involved in volunteer projects and a new friend who sat down next to us with her husband at an outdoor cafe that locals frequent. All in all it was a great week–at least until we returned to Philadelphia and the heat and humidity hit us. But I’m a pretty positive person and am just happy that I have opportunities to see new things.
An interesting day today
January 14th, 2010This morning I got up early to prepare food for my nephew who was about to leave to Coimbatore for some tournament. When I switched on my mixy for grinding chutney for idly, to my shock, the current went off suddenly. He had to leave at 6.30 am to catch the first bus. In a hurry I used the stone hand grinder to grind the paste. Some how I sent him at time. After that my elder brother dropped in to inform about his son’s marriage. Then I went to feed my cattle at around 8.00am.Around ten I received a call from my friend requesting me to join her to go to a near by temple in the evening for which I gave a positive reply. In the afternoon, after my meals I slept a while. At three in the afternoon, I had a guest informing me about a land that came for sale. At once I called my elder sister who was interested in getting the land. After that I prepared to go to the temple with my friend. We prayed there and returned home in the early hours of the evening. The evening Tiffin preparation started after 7.00 pm. Meanwhile I saw the TV serials that are interesting. The dinner got over at around ten and we went to bed at around eleven after washing the dishes. So the day was hectic and useful!
Training Your Dog
January 12th, 2010It is very important to tie a dog collar and leash round your dog’s neck. If he is kept loose, he may be hit by a car or anything terrible can happen to him. Give him leash training. Take him outside for a walk on a leash. Reward him with treats and praises whenever he behaves properly. You will have a very enjoyable feeling when you turn your dog into a well-behaved and calm pet. Learning the right way to train him will make this task easier. You should never jerk your dog’s collar or leash because they will not understand what they have done to have their collars jerked. Dog training can be very enjoyable. All you need is a bit of patience and soon you will come to enjoy each other’s company.
Eating Out of Bags and Boxes
January 11th, 2010Last night I had the same dinner that I’ve had every night for months. You can’t really call it a dinner, or even a meal. If I had to stack it up against the basic food groups and give it a grade, it would probably get an F minus. You see, I don’t like to cook. Never have and probably never will. I’m 66 years old and I’ve been living on my own since 1988. When I was married, we went out to eat quite a bit, and my husband had a few dishes that he could prepare really well. My Mom was a really good cook, but it never somehow rubbed off on me. So last night, I popped a can of diet 7-up, opened a small box of raisins, and chased them down with a cinnamon raisin South Beach Diet bar. Doesn’t heat up the kitchen, and doesn’t use any dishes or utensils. Remarkably, I stay healthy.
NCIS – One of the Best Shows on TV
January 6th, 2010

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Services) is my favorite show on TV. It has everything you would want in a TV show – interesting storylines, a great cast, and fun twists in the plot to keep you interested. Every so often, the previews for the next episode or next season threaten to have one of the characters killed off, and my husband and I always speculate about who it could be since we love the main characters so much and aren’t sure if we would continue to watch if some of them left the show. Along with such a great cast, there is a great storyline to the show. Each episode has an interesting and unique case which allows the viewer to try to solve the case alongside the agents. Along with that, there are a number of longer running storylines that go on for part of a season or an entire season. Plus, on most episodes, there is a fun plot twist or an unexpected aspect to the story. All in all, it’s a good show with a solid foundation of a great cast and wonderful writing.
The strongest muscle
January 3rd, 2010

When people talk about their strengths, they usually talk about their muscles that are visible like biceps, triceps and all the other visible muscles on their body. But, my biggest strength is my brain, the most powerful weapon. Nobody can not take from me what I have inside my brain. My knowledge. That is something that lasts longer than like big biceps. My knowledge won’t disappear that easily like biceps if you do not work out often. People do not realize what power they have inside their heads. Everybody always work out on their visible muscles and they do not care about that brain inside their heads. They think that they are strong only if they are big. But, smart people are stronger them they are. And that is all clear when people find them self in dangerous situations. The ones with “stronger” brains have more chance to survive in that kind of situations.
